About Your Opportunity

As the Planning Engineer – Dams & Weirs you will support the team undertaking planning for asset improvements to ensure that these assets efficiently achieve agreed engineering compliance with industry best practice design and regulatory standards, You will support the development of Strategic Business Case documentation for dam and weir asset improvements, working with technical team members internally and external consultants to evaluate appropriate options, identifying risks and justifying the preferred outcome. You will support asset planning outcomes consistent with asset management principles and business goals, ensuring that the performance of the assets are optimised throughout their lifecycles.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead risk‑based asset and lifecycle planning for dam and weir assets, including condition assessments and planning of upgrade works across the portfolio.
  • Deliver strategic and long‑term planning for bulk water supply, including contributing to or leading planning studies and developing business cases.
  • Manage and coordinate consultancy projects to deliver agreed scopes and planning outcomes.
  • Communicate and translate planning outcomes through reports, presentations and briefings to inform stakeholders and capital investment decisions (including the Asset Portfolio Master Plan).
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve aligned, best‑practice planning outcomes while complying with WHS, quality, environmental and governance requirements. 

About you

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Bachelor qualification in Civil Engineering (or a related discipline relevant to dams or water engineering), with eligibility for Engineers Australia membership.
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting dam and weir engineering reports, with sound knowledge of project management principles.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including consultation, negotiation and coordination across internal and external parties.
  • Well‑developed analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in multi‑disciplinary and cross‑organisational teams.
  • Knowledge of the water industry, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge, including the Queensland regulatory environment relevant to water supply assets.
  • Operational readiness and mobility, including an unrestricted C‑Class driver’s licence, ability to work across Seqwater’s operational area, and support on‑call dam safety and flood operations.

This role will be offered as a 2 year fixed term contract opportunity, with a salary ranging from $115,844.14 - $128,520.65, plus 12.75% superannuation.
