You’ll be working on some of the most high-profile water infrastructure projects in the industry, helping to secure Water for Life for generations to come.
About Your Opportunity
As the Cyber Assurance and Solution Specialist, you will provide expert cyber assurance and secure-by-design guidance across Seqwater’s operational technology (OT) environments. This includes SCADA systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), remote telemetry units (RTUs), telemetry networks and other industrial control systems that keep our water infrastructure running. You will ensure the secure integration of OT systems, alignment with IEC 62443, NIST CSF 2.0, SOCI Act, and compliance with Seqwater’s Cyber Security Strategy.
Working closely with Operations, Engineering and ICT Infrastructure teams, you validate that security controls, configurations and architectures effectively protect Seqwater’s critical infrastructure while maintaining operational continuity. In this role, you aren’t just implementing rules – you’re a trusted advisor and leader embedding cyber security into everything we do in OT.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the secure design and integration of ICS and operational networks, embedding secure-by-design principles aligned with Seqwater’s cyber security standards.
- Provide expert OT cyber security advice and implementation support across BAU and projects. Ensure that all new systems and upgrades follow security best practices from inception to implementation.
- Conduct OT cyber risk assessments and system-level threat modelling (IEC 62443-3-2). Identify vulnerabilities in legacy or constrained environments and recommend practical mitigations or compensating controls.
- Support implementation and continuously improve OT security controls - for example, network segmentation, patch management, system hardening, and access controls – to meet obligations of the SOCI Act and Queensland Government IS18. Track and drive remediation of any gaps.
- Assess and monitor third-party OT vendors and contractors for compliance with Seqwater’s cyber security requirements. This includes reviewing contract clauses for security, performing risk assessments on vendor products/services, and working with vendors to address any shortcomings.
About you
We’re seeking a seasoned OT security professional who can combine technical expertise with a collaborative, proactive mindset. To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Control Systems, Industrial Automation), Computer Science, or equivalent education and experience.
- 5+ years’ experience dedicated to operational technology or industrial control systems security., with proven expertise in securing systems like SCADA, PLCs, RTUs, or telemetry networks.
- Strong knowledge of OT protocols and network segmentation practices. Familiarity with applying cyber security frameworks and standards relevant to OT (e.g. IEC 62443, ISO 27019) and compliance requirements like the SOCI Act, QG IS18, and NIST CSF 2.0.
- Demonstrated experience conducting OT cyber risk assessments, architecture reviews, and control validations using recognised frameworks (IEC 62443-3-2, NIST SP 800-82). You can identify weaknesses and design effective mitigation strategies suitable for industrial environments.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills to articulate cyber risks and negotiate secure outcomes with technical and non-technical stakeholders. You excel at building consensus and driving change where needed.
- High-level analytical and problem-solving ability, with a talent for thinking on your feet. You can manage multiple priorities in fast-paced setting and adapt to evolving threats or urgent incidents without losing sight of long-term security goals.
This role will be offered on a full-time permanent basis, with a competitive salary, plus 12.75% superannuation.
Seqwater provides excellent work-life balance with hybrid working arrangements and the chance to work from various beautiful locations across South East Queensland.
