You’ll be working on some of the most high-profile water infrastructure projects in the industry, helping to secure Water for Life for generations to come.

About Your Opportunity

As the Water Demand and System Engineer, you will support Seqwater’s strategic water demand modelling and forecasting to enable accurate, evidence‑based planning. This includes developing and maintaining demand models, analysing water use patterns, validating retailer forecasts, and ensuring compliance with engineering and data integrity standards. Working closely with internal teams, retailers, and government stakeholders, you will apply best‑practice methodologies, manage and enhance the Waterhub system, and strengthen analytics to inform infrastructure investment, water security, and drought response. Through reliable data, transparent modelling, and robust quality assurance, you will build stakeholder confidence and support Seqwater’s long‑term planning objectives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain strategic demand models to support long‑term water planning, including the Water Security Program and capital investment business cases.
  • Provide expert engineering advice on water supply operations, system constraints, resilience risks, and demand growth to inform operational and investment decisions.
  • Lead regional demand planning and forecasting, coordinating with internal teams, retailers, councils, and government stakeholders to develop Local Area Plans and aligned forecasts.
  • Deliver advanced spatial and analytical modelling, including management of the Demand Distribution Tool, to support zone‑level infrastructure and network planning.
  • Provide technical leadership and governance, including annual demand reviews, validation of forecasts, mentoring of junior staff, and continuous improvement of modelling and analytics practices.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Degree‑qualified engineer with 5+ years’ experience in water demand forecasting, modelling, and analytics, applying engineering principles to strategic planning and operations.
  • Experience working with retail water customers and/or land‑use planning, including customer demand forecasting, population and development growth analysis, and regulatory alignment.
  • Strong understanding of water supply system operations, including operational constraints, resilience risks, and the link between demand forecasts and investment decisions.
  • Advanced data and scripting skills, with hands‑on experience using Python, SQL (and VBA) to manage, analyse, and validate complex datasets.
  • Demonstrated geospatial analysis capability, using GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) to assess spatial demand distribution and support infrastructure planning.
  • Effective stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex modelling into clear advice for senior leaders and external partners.

This role will be offered on a permanent full-time basis, with a salary ranging from $132,746.14 - $145,422.62, plus 12.75% superannuation.

Appointment to this role is subject to the provision of a national police check and may be subject to other medical/character requirements. Please note that people with criminal records are not automatically deemed ineligible. Each application will be considered on its merits.
