What You’ll Be Doing
As a Trainee Dam Operator working in our Central region, you will develop the skills and knowledge required to support the operation of dams, weirs, irrigation schemes and other water infrastructure. Your role will contribute to the efficient delivery of water, compliance with regulatory standards, and the achievement of operational performance goals.
You will work under supervision to undertake the following:
- Work with staff across Seqwater’s dams, recreational areas, catchments, and other water infrastructure to support the operation and maintenance of both built and natural assets.
- Assist in the operation of valves and electrical/mechanical water equipment to meet required water delivery needs under the guidance of experienced operators.
- Assist in the carrying out of surveillance and inspections of dam related infrastructure.
Assist in the operations of fishways, including duties for the relocation and recovery of stranded fish and aquatic species.
- Assist in the collection of operational data as requested in relation to regulatory requirements as directed.
Due to the nature of our operations, Dam Operators are required work on weekends, public holidays, and outside of standard hours, including participation in on-call duties.

In addition to the Certificate III, you will be willing to undertake a range of other training such as confined space training, first aid certificate, and any additional training deemed necessary to carry out the duties of a Dam Operator.
You’ll also need:
- A driver’s license
- Basic computer skills; and a
- Willingness to learn how to use new tools and equipment

What’s In It for You?
This position has a starting salary of $47,611.10 per annum plus 12.75% super. Your remuneration will increase at various milestones throughout the trainee program, reaching $69,806.15 per annum plus super after 18 months.
Please note: There may be an opportunity to commence at a higher salary if you hold a relevant qualification and have prior experience.
