About Your Opportunity
As the Environmental Advisor, you will deliver best practice environmental advice and support within an asset-intensive industry. Reporting to the Senior Environmental Advisor, you will work autonomously and partner with key internal stakeholders to improve Seqwater’s environmental management capabilities. With in-depth knowledge of environmentally relevant legislation and approvals frameworks across Seqwater’s jurisdiction, you will interact with local, state and commonwealth regulators and relevant external stakeholders to ensure Seqwater’s interests and environmental management outcomes are achieved. You will partner with operational and project staff on environmental matters to drive a culture of ownership, management and improvement of environmental values for a sustainable future.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate and deliver regional compliance activities, complex scientific monitoring programs, and consultancy support to meet legislation, approvals (e.g. environmental authority, EPBC, Coordinator General reports), and internal standards.
- Provide expert technical advice and complex problem-solving support across project planning, delivery, operations, and maintenance.
- Lead environmental audits and risk assessments aligned with ISO14001 and Seqwater’s certified environmental management system, including coordination of external and regulator audits.
- Undertake investigations into complex environmental incidents, liaising with Local, State, and Commonwealth regulators and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate internal and external environmental reporting and incident management support to meet Seqwater’s compliance obligations.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related field, with four or more years of relevant experience.
- Extensive experience translating environmental legislation and applying policies and procedures to operational and project activities.
- Strong knowledge of environmental licensing and approval requirements, including environmental authorities and EPBC approvals.
- Experience in environmental management of project-related activities and risks, including developing environmental management plans and resolving project-related environmental issues.
- High-level analytical and problem-solving skills to identify practical solutions to environmental challenges.
- Experience in environmental incident management and conducting site/project-based environmental audits (EMS lead auditor qualifications desirable).
This position will be offered on a 2 year fixed term contract and has a salary range starting from $115,844.14 per annum plus 12.75% superannuation.
