You’ll be working on some of the most high-profile water infrastructure projects in the industry, helping to secure Water for Life for generations to come.

About Your Opportunity

As the OT Cyber Assurance & Solutions Specialist, you will provide enterprise-wide leadership and act as Seqwater’s recognized technical authority for OT cyber security. This is a rare opportunity to shape the cyber security of one of Australia’s largest critical water infrastructure environments, working alongside engineering, operational technology and infrastructure specialists to protect the essential services relied upon by South East Queensland.

You’ll join a growing Cyber Security team that is implementing a strategic cyber capability uplift aligned to the NIST Cyber Security Framework (CSF) 2.0. Backed by executive sponsorship and a clear cyber strategy, you’ll have the opportunity to influence how cyber security is embedded across both IT and OT environments while helping shape Seqwater’s long-term cyber resilience.

You will lead cyber assurance activities and provide secure-by-design guidance across SCADA systems, PLCs, RTUs, telemetry networks and other industrial control systems throughout their lifecycle. You will influence engineering standards, validate architectures and ensure alignment with IEC 62443, NIST CSF 2.0, the SOCI Act and Seqwater’s Cyber Security Standards.

Working closely with Operations, Engineering and ICT Infrastructure teams, you will drive risk-informed decision-making by assuring the effectiveness of security controls, configurations and system integrations while maintaining operational continuity. As a trusted advisor, you will influence stakeholders across the organisation to embed cyber security into the design, delivery and operation of OT environments, strengthening organisational capability and contributing to Seqwater’s long-term cyber maturity.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and govern OT cyber security engineering assurance frameworks, embedding secure-by-design principles across the asset lifecycle and ensuring alignment with enterprise risk, regulatory obligations and strategic objectives.
  • Provide expert advice on complex OT cyber security, risk and compliance matters, including the application of legislation, regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Define and maintain OT cyber security policies, standards and architecture patterns, ensuring consistent implementation across IT and OT environments and alignment with frameworks such as IEC 62443 and NIST CSF.
  • Lead cyber risk assessment and assurance activities, including threat modelling, control validation and risk treatment, to support informed decision-making and investment prioritisation.
  • Drive the uplift of OT cyber security capability and resilience through major initiatives, incident preparedness and response, vendor assurance and continuous improvement of Seqwater’s security posture.

About you

We’re seeking a seasoned OT security professional who can combine technical expertise with a collaborative, proactive mindset. To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and current RPEQ registration.
  • Extensive experience in OT cyber security engineering, including the secure design, assurance and operation of industrial control systems within critical infrastructure or highly regulated environments.
  • Strong expertise in applying and interpreting cyber security frameworks, standards and legislation, including IEC 62443, NIST CSF, SOCI Act and QG IS18.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, assess and manage complex cyber risks, translating technical findings into practical business and risk outcomes.
  • Proven experience leading complex, cross-functional programs and influencing senior stakeholders to deliver enterprise-wide outcomes without direct authority.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to provide expert advice and negotiate secure outcomes across technical and non-technical audiences.

This role will be offered on a full-time permanent basis, with a competitive salary, plus 12.75% superannuation.

Seqwater provides excellent work-life balance with hybrid working arrangements and the chance to work from various beautiful locations across South East Queensland. You’ll have opportunities for professional development and to lead security initiatives that have a real, positive impact on the community.

Appointment to this role is subject to the provision of a national police check and may be subject to other medical/character requirements. Please note that people with criminal records are not automatically deemed ineligible. Each application will be considered on its merits.
