About Your Opportunity

Reporting to our Supervisor Catchment Compliance, you will work with a motivated small team to manage sustainable and responsible use of Seqwater land with a focus on the protection and improvement of water quality and the environment. Our team covers a diverse geographical area from   Gympie, south to the New South Wales border and west to the base of the Toowoomba ranges.  Your role will require you to undertake regular patrols on Seqwater lakes and recreation areas to educate and promote safe and responsible use and adherence to site rules. You will be required to act in accordance with the requirements of any appointments under the Transport Operations (Maritime Safety) Act 1994.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular compliance patrols and planned operations, land based and on water.
  • Manage encroachment issues on water supply buffer areas and general Seqwater freehold land, coordinate encroachment solutions and negotiate with neighbours and internal stakeholders to ensure best practice outcomes are delivered in line with the right way to operate
  • Arrange and supervise work conducted by Field Rangers and/or contractors as required and physically undertake work activities such as grounds maintenance, catchment maintenance and asset maintenance to ensure the protection of Seqwater catchment lands.
  • Work closely with external advisors (AMSA) to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations relating to Commercial Vessel Operations
  • Carry out other duties as directed by the Coordinator Recreation and Catchment Services and Supervisor Catchment Compliance as required.
  • Carry out administration work required for the work unit including information required for site access and control, job costing, timesheets and procurement of materials and services

 

Hours and Locations

Weekend work is a requirement of this position (shift allowances apply). The successful applicant must have the ability to travel across all Seqwater regions as part of the role. Time away may also be required (1- 2 nights on weekend patrols).

 

About you

To be successful in this role, you will possess: 

 

Essentials

  • Current "C" class Driver’s License.
  • Experience in natural resource management and/or compliance, including implementation of plans to address threating processes and risk management
  • Boating experience including holding a Grade 3 Coxswain ticket or higher
  • High level of experience in dealing with the public regarding enforcement and/or compliance activities.
  • Alignment with Seqwater values

 

Desirables

  • High level of demonstrated competence and experience in a compliance position of a similar nature.
  • Diploma or Higher level of qualification in natural area management or conservation
  • Certificate IV in Government (Investigation) or appropriate elements.
  • Well-developed and effective communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to effectively deal with confrontational situations.
  • Ability to understand and apply relevant policies and procedures.
  • Senior First Aid Officer Certificate.
  • Current appointment as a Shipping Inspector under the Transport Operations (Marine Safety) Act 2004 or other Queensland Legislation.
  • Experience in off-road4wd driving
  • Chainsaw level 1 & 2

 

This position has a salary range of $104,668.84 - $115,102.18 (dependent on experience) plus 12.75% superannuation.
