About Your Opportunity
As the Dam Improvement Program (DIP) Commercial Manager, you will work closely with General Manager – Capital Delivery (Dam Improvement) to oversee the strategic planning, development, and execution of all commercial activities that ensure successful execution of the DIP. You will provide strategic commercial leadership throughout both the development and delivery phases of complex infrastructure projects. Working closely with the DIP Project Directors and Project Managers, you will support the project teams ensuring the works are executed within competitive commercial frameworks that reflect owner/client-side requirements. This role is crucial in driving commercial excellence from procurement to contract management to commercial performance metrics and reporting.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide commercial oversight and leadership across all projects in planning, design and execution, ensuring alignment with DIP objectives and project goals. Oversee procurement activities, contract negotiations, and develop strategic commercial plans tailored to the client/owner’s side.
- Monitor project budgets, forecasts, and financial performance of the projects. Identify and mitigate commercial risks, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and regulatory requirements. Establish and maintain suitable systems and controls that can identify and capitalize on commercial opportunities across the DIP.
- This role will operate within a matrix-style operating model, collaborating across the projects as the project teams will be led by a core project delivery team. Noting that assigned Contract Managers and Contract administrators form integral part of the project teams
- Provide comprehensive commercial oversight and guidance for all commercial activities within the DIP, ensuring alignment with the overarching business strategy and project objectives.
- Procurement Planning and execution: Develop and execute strategic procurement plans with the Commercial team with the focus on developing and implementing competitive commercial frameworks, governance and assurance processes that guide project development and delivery.
- Collaborate with the Commercial team for contract negotiations, ensuring adherence to legal and commercial standards for the benefit of the project.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
Essentials
- A degree in Business, Law or related engineering discipline.
- Extensive experience in a senior commercial or contracts management role within the infrastructure or construction sectors.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the selection, preparation and execution of commercial agreements, with substantial experience in a major capital infrastructure delivery environment.
- Strong organisational skills including the ability to work accurately to specified deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong ability to think and act in a strategic manner and solve problems.
Desirables
- Demonstrated ability to oversee and manage complex, multiple stage tendering and contracting process.
- Superior negotiating skills and the ability to use independent judgment when dealing with issues of a complex nature.
- Ability to work autonomously and within a dynamic team environment, and with limited supervision.
- Relevant professional membership with suitably aligned institutions
- Experience across a range of delivery models including Design Build Operate Maintain (DBOM), D&C, design-only, construct-only, collaborative contracting, target cost with gain/pain share mechanisms, PMC, and reimbursable arrangements will be highly regarded
This position is initially offered as a Fixed term contract until May 2027
