About Your Opportunity
As a Senior Environmental Advisor, you will drive Seqwater’s cultural change by empowering ownership and continuous improvement of environmental management practices and values on site across a portfolio of our large capital projects. As part of a small team, you’ll provide expert scientific and technical (but practical) advice across Seqwater’s built and natural asset base, supporting capital programs. With a focus on compliance, performance, and improvement, you’ll manage complex site-based activities across local, State, and Commonwealth legislation. You’ll enhance environmental governance and deliver high-quality, pragmatic, solution-oriented advice on complex matters, while engaging with regulators to negotiate and influence statutory compliance and approvals to achieve Seqwater’s environmental outcomes.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate the delivery of regional compliance activities on some of our large capital works, including complex environmental and ecological monitoring programs, and provide expert advice and interpretation of relevant legislation, policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines, for multifaceted operational, project and third-party activities.
- Deliver high-quality scientific and technical advice, on a broad range of complex environmental matters, and formulate strategic recommendations, across multiple sub disciplines of environmental management.
- Coordinate the delivery of multidisciplinary environmental projects, including complex internal and external environmental and ecological monitoring programs. Monitor resource allocation and control program and budgetary management to ensure compliance deliverables are met.
- Hold contractors to account for successful implementation of environmental management plans and associated programs of work to meet regulator and community expectations
- Lead investigations for environmental incidents and emergencies, including provision of expert advice to resolve complex problems and achieve solution-based outcomes, during and after hours as part of the incident and emergency management team.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related field and extensive relevant experience.
- Experience in undertaking site and project based environmental audits on large infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated understanding of relevant environmental legislation, policies and procedures and experience in providing advice on the application of these requirements in both operational and project activities.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in environmental management of project related activities and risks, including the development of project environmental management plans and addressing project-related environmental issues.
- Ability to lead others (including contractors) and provide guidance, mentoring and development.
This position has a salary range of $132,746.14 - $145,422.62 (dependent on experience) plus 12.75% superannuation.
