About The team

The Planning and Approvals team provides technical planning and environmental expertise to Seqwater’s Water Security Program.  Team members form an integral part of the core project teams, and provide expert guidance on environmental aspects, impacts, mitigation, and design to avoid impacts to the environment where possible.  We are responsible for coordinating all necessary statutory approvals for a multi-billion-dollar portfolio of infrastructure projects, including water pipelines and water treatment plants, as well as assisting and guiding projects through construction to ensure the environment is protected throughout the project lifecycle.  The team sits within the Program Management Office, within the Infrastructure, Planning and Capital Delivery Group.

 

About the role

As the Senior Advisor Planning and Approvals, you will be responsible for providing environmental advice, impact assessment, and coordinating statutory approvals for infrastructure projects. This includes complex planning and environmental approvals, including EPBC Act approvals, Coordinated Project approvals and Ministerial Infrastructure Designations, providing technical advice on environmental science matters, such as ground and surface water quality, contaminated land, and flora and fauna surveys.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead environmental approvals strategies for high-value water infrastructure projects, including risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide high-level technical and scientific advice, and manage complex environmental projects in response to regulatory changes or risks.
  • Act as the key liaison with regulators, consultants, and stakeholders, negotiating approvals and ensuring alignment with environmental requirements.
  • Oversee site access, safety, inspections, and contribute to research initiatives and the development of environmental management systems.

 

About you

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or Engineering, with a valid ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
  • Experience working within the Commonwealth and Queensland statutory approvals systems and a strong understanding of environmental and planning legislation
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams to deliver EIS-type projects
  • Experience in contaminated land, water quality, or ecology and strong written and reporting skills will be highly regarded
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence and provide high-level environmental advice

 

This position has a salary starting at $149,648 – $162,324 plus superannuation (dependent on experience) plus 12.75% superannuation.
